| What is the difference between cactus and succulents?
| All cactus are succulents which means they store water in leaves, stems, or
roots for long periods.
| What kind of potting mix do you use?
| Everyone has their own idea of what is best. We use Metro Mix 350 with 50%
gravel. Cactus mix is available at many stores now.
| What kind of pot do you think is best?
| Many people still use clay pots but we find plastic is more suitable for us.
The main thing is to make sure the pot has a hole for drainage.
| How often do you water?
| After you’ve had cactus and succulents for a while, you can tell by looking if
they need a drink. Water the soil well and wait for it to dry out (usually 5-10
days).
| What kind of light is needed?
| All plants need some light. Many do better if they can be outside for part of
the year. They don’t like frost. If kept inside, they should have
indirect sun or bright light. Most people keep them on a window sill if
they don’t have much room.
| What kind of rocks are on top?
| We use river rock or expanded clay for top dressing which lets the water run
through and is more attractive.
| What does grafted mean?
| Grafting is when you combine two forms of cactus or succulents together. The
top plant gets its food from the bottom plant. You can experiment to make
plants that aren’t found in nature. You must put a slow growing top on a
fast growing bottom.
